Endodontics is the area of dentistry that deals with problems inside the teeth.  The interior of a tooth is called the pulp and it is a collection of nerves and blood vessels that give a tooth its sensation.  When this pulp becomes inflamed or infected, it can require root canal treatment.  Root canal treatment can resolve pain or infection related to a tooth which has suffered damage to its pulp.
