After endodontic appointments
Your treatment will be conducted under local anaesthetic. There is usually no restriction after the procedure to drive or return to work.
In the days following your treatment, your tooth may feel sensitive, especially when chewing. This is normal, as healing is underway. Over the counter pain medication, such as ibuprofen (Nurofen) or paracetamol (Panadol) can be used if required. Our endodontists will discuss with you the likelihood that discomfort may arise and the most appropriate pain reliever for you to be using. Antibiotics are not normally needed. Should you experience discomfort that cannot be controlled with over-the-counter medication, or if you develop a fever or excessive swelling, please contact our practice so that we can assist you.
You may continue to brush and floss your teeth morning and night. Do not chew hard or sticky food on the affected side until your endodontic therapy is completed and your tooth is covered with a protective restoration. In the days following your appointments, soft foods should also be eaten. Care should be taken consuming hot food/drink whilst your anaesthetic is wearing off.
